In the western world, the shopping malls will entice us with attractive things and we buy and hardly use them. The bill will come one day, then we worry about money. Life can be very happier with far less material things of life, but we hoard too many things and get miserable. When we live on the earth to impress others with our material things, then we are making the biggest mistake of life.

It sounds like Goa is still a fantastic place to live. I was there in 1970-1971 on Anjuna. Have been wanting to return ever since. Well now I’m retired and going back just as soon as the COVID-19 vaccine is administered. I have no doubt things have changed considerably, but Goa and India will still have a great vibe. I lived in Goa on Anjuna beach in 1971. I’ve never forgotten how wonderful it was. That’s why I’m planning to go back as soon as the vaccines are distributed. India is a place that every day can be a new adventure.

It’s nice to hear beautiful things about little GOA, proud to be called as a Goan.
Goa is more about nature and natural beauty surrounded with real people who love nature’s presence.

There is no better place to b compared with Goan identity if u meet good locals, you can love Goan cooked food only at local restaurants and homemade food.

Just love Goa for what it is…..

Goans r taken for rides by few politicians and just killing real nature of Goans.

All the best people visiting Goa…..

I love the photo of the military guys holding hands. India feels like a place where love is shared. Where people aren’t so angry as they are here in the US. I went there for 3 weeks Dec 2014. I want to go back and live there, like you did. I want to feel that way of life, that human way of living. Thank you for your article, I am excited to learn about what you are doing and maybe one day soon do something similar. It’s a big jump.

You will find that in every neighborhood in Merida, you can have custom anything made to order – furniture – upholstered and un-upholstered – curtains, mirrors, bug screens, slipcovers, etc. I would be really surprised with the arts and crafts traditions of Yucatan and Merida being a city that supports the arts, that you won’t find some cool local clothing. Of course, I love the quality traditional Maya clothing available, but I’m talking about something new and local like I think you are. I know I saw some beautiful custom-made sandals somewhere lately. Will have to look for the tab I’m sure I saved. I’m anxious for you to land and find local designers for us all. I feel certain they are there or about to be — lots happening in Merida — and I love supporting the local and neighborhood economies of Merida.

Oh, I hope you have so much fun in Mexico!
Also, I totally get how India has changed you to be less materialistic. I only lived in Udaipur for a year and I have been back in the States a year now. But I got rid of almost everything I owned when I moved to India and I have barely accumulated anything back up. I don’t want to. I don’t even want to buy furniture. Ha!
I can’t wait to hear about your experiences in Mexico!
