I hope next time if you get a chance to visit you can grab some local items such as bandej or gottapatti. Btw Jodhpur is the #1 tourist city, the reason you find it “old” and not like Jaipur is because that is their USP – it’s a heritage city.

Hope you go again and can find a local to show you around some more! I think this city will surprise you :)

I always ask before I take a photo as some people here do not like it. Indians are curious about foreigners and often want to snap selfies with us as well, but I only allow that if they ask – so I kind of just do the same for them. But, if you have a big serious camera and take candids of people I doubt anyone will mind and if they do you can delete it. But, mostly they love having their photos taken here!

In general how do they react to having their photo made? I don’t want to offend anyone but the best pictures are the ones as they go about their business. What has been your experience?

BTW I’m about 3 parts 60’s hippie and am still figuring out the other parts.

Uber is in Jodhpur but not sure about Jaisalmer. Cheaper to just get Uber’s when you need them rather than all day taxi – plus you don’t really need escorted tour in these places. most forts and such come with free audio guides. Ubers are available easily in Jodhpur but you have to walk out to the main bazaar to meet them as they cannot go on the tiny alley road – only rickshaws can, and even they can’t go down some of them! plus, it’s a complicated one-way system so even after 9 pm when cars can go down into town, they won’t because it’s a mess.

We are Indians settled in USA and going to Jodhpur & Jaislemer in Feb 2018. We are wonderfing if we need Taxi for the whole day or not. We want to see the highlights of Jodhpur. Whats the best way to do so? Take an escorted tour from 9-5 pm or take taxi and guide or get uber?
2nd day we are going to Sufi festival at the Mehrangarh fort . Will Uber take us back & forth. Ubers available with ease? Then we travel to Jaislemer from JOdhpur and want to get Jaislemer tour that day. Next day we stay at Dessert camp. We want to go to nice, luxury camp, any suggestions? Thx again
