Where to Buy Stylish Travel Clothes for Women – My Favorite Places to Shop

The number one question I get in comments and my inbox on Instagram is “where do you shop for your cute travel clothes!?” You might be surprised to find that my list (below) of where to buy stylish travel clothes for women doesn’t actually have “travel clothing” companies but just normal stores. For me (and I think a lot of you), when you think about where to shop for travel clothing you aren’t thinking of “travel clothing brands”, but instead just cute clothes to wear traveling that you would wear at home, too. When you feel good in what you wear when you travel, it takes off any stress of worrying you are drawing too much attention, being inappropriate/offending, or just feeling uncomfortable and fiddling around with an ill-fitting outfit. Instead, you can feel good in what you wear and focus on more important things like enjoying the moment.

I’ve never been one that was into women’s travel clothing brands because I never found them to be cute enough. I recently discovered Encircled who make soft cotton clothing and one item is a multi-way dress geared toward travelers, that I actually love – but it’s a rarity to find a company that offers fashionable travel clothing like this! I do want to look more into these travel clothing brands and just try them out to see if maybe they have some good pieces. Would you guys want me to test some out? Let me know in the comments.

When my Instagram followers message me to ask how to choose travel clothing, or really how I choose my travel clothing and where I shop I tell them I shop for travel clothing at the exact same places that I shop for clothes I would wear anywhere else. What I might change is looking for items that are great from travel from the stores I love and avoiding things like club dresses, heels (I know, shocker), and business clothes (even Express isn’t really travel-y, although I used to wear it for casual wear when I lived in the USA).

Here are some outfit ideas for India, Morocco, and Jordan you can check out with links to where I buy those outfits, specifically for conservative, warm countries.

Where to Buy Stylish Travel Clothes for Women

1. Free People

20 Photos to Inspire You to Visit Israel

This is my go-to for travel dresses and pantsuits. It might seem like I always have new clothes, but really I don’t shop that much. For Free People, I do one online shop per year when I’m in the US each summer. I will get 3-5 dresses although I usually order 10 knowing I’m going to return at least half of them. Their stuff runs really big and they are great at styling it on the model, so some stuff doesn’t look as good on as it looks online or it fits a little too big. I do have some other things from here like a leather fringe bag I always wear and a lot of my bras are from here, but mostly I go for the dresses and jumpsuits.

Just having 5 dresses/jumpsuits that fit well is great for travel because it just makes packing easier and takes up less space then when you have to make outfits with a top and bottom. It’s also nice because they are put-together looks that you can feel confident to wear while you travel.

Here are some of my favorite dresses and jumpsuits I have on my wishlist now. Sometimes I’m lucky and stuff is WAY on sale by the time I get back to the USA that I’ve added to my wishlist way before, ha! A great way to shop:

2. Urban Outfitters

You can find the best travel clothes here, I promise! I have gotten all my Levi’s jean shorts here, cute rompers, little breezy dresses, and many loose long-sleeve tops for layering. I also grab up a couple stretchy tanks and crop tops from here while I’m back home. I mostly online shop and do the same thing as Free People where I’ll buy a lot and return it. I usually comb through the sale stuff pretty good, too, as they get new styles in really fast and stuff goes on sale that much faster, too.

My favorite things at U.O on their website now:

3. Macy’s

Wellness Retreat at Myrtle Beach

I shop here for sales and always find great deals, thanks to my mom’s Macy’s card, lol. I have only shopped at Macy’s in person, looking at the sale racks myself, but no reason not to shop online, too. Brands that I find here are Free People, Lucky Brand (nice worn-in feeling thin graphic tees and tee-shirts with ), Ralph Lauren (does nice crochet), Bar III, and sometimes Rachel Roy.

If you have a Macy’s card you can get tons of extra discounts on top of the sale price so I’ve gotten $200 dresses here for like $50 or less. I do a questionable amount of shoe shopping here, too especially since I wear pretty much the same three shoes all the time. I also go here for Fossil bags, my all-time favorite travel purse brand.

These are the best finds at Macy’s right now:

4. Nordstrom

Shoe sales at Nordstrom in that little back sale room are gold mines. My favorite Franco Sarto shoes are always on sale here, Lucky Brand boots, Patricia Nash map print leather shoes and bags, and you’ll find Tom’s, too which I love to wear when I travel. The same like Macy’s, you can get great brands here at a discount when they run sales compared to directly from the brand’s website.

Here are the things I always look for at Nordstrom:

5. Tia

Tons of my travel clothes are from Tia, a shop here in Goa. She sells online on Etsy. I bet 50% of the outfits I wear on Instagram are from her line. She has the lower priced cotton stuff that’s like $30-50 on average for dresses, capes (so good to have these to throw over outfits), loose pants/trousers, and tops. Then she has the silk stuff which is pricier but some of it are staples in my travel wardrobe: like the black midi dress and black silk blouse.

6. FARA

I am not such a yogi, but it's Bali! You have to do yoga. The classes offered at Desa Seni are actually really famous all over Bali and people know the yoga teachers by name around the island. You have to sign up and there are only so many spaces. If you stay on the property, that puts you at a great advantage.

I love FARA clothes. This is another designer in Goa that sells on Etsy and she makes mostly silk and raw silk dresses and pants/trousers. Her stuff is a lot thinner so great for SE Asia, Mexico, and Central/South America, and India. Some of it is a little thin to wear in places like Morocco or Jordan in case the sunlight hits it wrong and it shines through a little. I wore her stuff almost every day in Bali and Sri Lanka. It’s really beachy vibes and the way her tailor makes stuff just fits really well on every shape.

My Macy’s card is a lifesaver! I recently got a $360 winter coat from there for $100. I like Nordstrom’s a lot too and when I did a contract in Seattle, I think I went at least once a week lol. Happy Thanksgiving!

When I grow up, I want to get a Macy’s card. I basically need a note from my mom to use hers LOL
