If you are planning to visit the U.S soon, you can acquire a visa in either the U.S embassy or a consulate at your country of origin. But as much as the application process does not change, visa requirements normally vary depending on the applicant’s country of origin. Being familiar with all the requirements will make the process much smoother and faster.

Travel visa basics

First of all, an applicant needs to understand that if they have a stamped travel visa on their passport, it does not guarantee them to enter the U.S, or any other country. It will only restrict you to reach the port, or entry point of your destination country. After you have reached the entry point, you will have an officer examine all the required documents to determine whether you are eligible to enter the country. In most cases, travel visas are issued depending on the kind of activity you want to undertake at your destination country. The most common visa types include travel visas, study visa, and tourist visas. But there are also other visas that can be issued to applicants which include work and resident visas. However, there are some counties that you may not be required to have a visa to be allowed entrance.

Processing of the travel visa

It’s different for every country. For example, Visa for Brazil processing is normally done at the embassy or consulate office of your country of origin. For you to have a higher chance of acquiring the visa, all the requirement should be followed to the latter. Failure to this can lead to the visa being delayed or your application rejected altogether.

The first step is to know the type of visa you want to apply for. This will depend on the time you want to spend at the country of destination. If your stay is for only a few months, then a tourist visa will be more convenient. When you later want to increase your period of stay, you can always go back to your country of origin and apply for an immigrant visa. However, the tourist visa can be renewed for only one month upon request.

Visa application requirements also vary depending on the country you plan to visit. The visa application process is meant to be short and precise. All you need to do is provide both travel and basic information together will all supporting documents. The application forms can be downloaded from the consulate or embassy website. However, there are some countries that do not allow manual applications. In this case, you will be required to follow an automated visa application process. Among such countries is Brazil.

The time taken to process your documents also depends on when you apply for the visa. If you happen to start your application during the holiday season, be prepared to wait longer for the visa to be processed.  Other visa types like study and work visas also takes longer to be processed compared to travel visas.
