Welcome back to This is India! I always have funny/weird stories about India to share with friends or family when I talk to them. This is just meant to be an honest portrayal about my life in India through short anecdotes. I also share here what I’ve been up to online outside Hippie in Heels.

What I was up to other than here:

  • I’ve had such a good two weeks in England with Ben and his friends and family. Now, tomorrow I leave for the next place: Latvia! I’m going on my own and Ben is staying a little longer in UK.

Now your story,

I’m going to share about another average morning Goa-style.

I woke up thinking it would be a coffee, blog, and Netflix day but that didn’t happen (things are never as simple as I hope).

I woke up to find that my cat was sick. I knew he was a little “off” but he was laying in the same spot on the floor as the night before and hadn’t touched his treats. He was dehydrated as well. It’d been about 3 days of him acting strange, so I wanted to have the vet give some fluids.

As you can see my cat is a stunner, and quite possibly the cutest and most photogenic cat in India, if not the world.

I asked my driver to take us in his car. We went to my vet’s place. Often she comes to ours for injections and such, but for IV fluids we drive through Mapusa to her office.

So, Kitkat got his fluids and antibiotic shot and I paid the 300 Rs (about $5) then headed to pick up the medication he needed. I stopped in at the best hospital (for humans of course) and got the meds.

goa monsoon this is indiaYou can but almost anything over the counter here :) The meds were 35 Rs. which is about .50 cents.

Babu dropped me home and since I was all sweaty and gross I decided I’d go to the mechanic and deal with the car. There are lots of mechanics here and you have to go to the right one. There are door mechanics, engine, tire, and electrician mechanics. They only do their specialty. Sometimes you have to visit 3 in one day for parts.

So, a tire puncture is super easy to fix by the looks of it. They take it off, put something in there to stop up the hole and then fill it back up with air. The tire goes back on! It took about 20 minutes and cost 250 Rs (about $4). goa monsoon this is indiaWhile I waited I had some chili bhaji and aloo! It’s deep fried potato and hot green chilis. It is super tasty. They usually take out the seeds so it’s not tooo spicy. Definitely not good for my diet I’m trying to keep. I love how they keep it warm with the lightbulb. These are 5 rs. a piece.

I got home, showered, and was just thinking of getting some work done when Babu called to say he needed me to come help pick out a bike. He had taken a bank loan and it was a celebration. Ben and I had been good luck in the past with other bikes, so he wanted me to join his family to choose between the two.

goa monsoon this is indiaThe babies came along, who I just love, and we took my newly fixed up Bolero to check out the bikes. We chose a perfect grey bike that looked really fancy even though let’s be real I know nothing about scooters! His family seemed happy with the choice.

goa monsoon this is indiaWe ate some pizza and came home! Kitkat needed to stay warm, hence the shoe bag. hehe. Just another day in Goa!
