Welcome back to This is India! I always have funny/weird stories about India to share with friends or family when I talk to them. This is just meant to be an honest portrayal about my life in India through short anecdotes. I also share here what I’ve been up to online outside Hippie in Heels.

What I was up to other than here:

  • I am happily back in Goa! Kerala was a blast with goMowgli but I was missing a hot shower, AC house, and my animals… (including Ben) which reminds me he has “acquired” a dog. It was scared from it’s home during the Ganesh fireworks that went on for a week in Goa and was hiding under the Omni on and off for two days. Now he’s names Omni and hasn’t left our porch since Ben gave him food and love the whole week I was gone. Now, we are looking for his owners.
  • I started using Snapchat! It’s hilarious and fun to play with! If you use it, follow me with the username hippie-inheels :)

Now your story,

In India there are lotteries. I don’t think they are entirely legal, but they are done in the open. It’s just a guy sitting at a table with all these papers and people coming up to put in their lucky numbers.

You can win pretty good cash, but most people only put in less than 100 rs.

Our buddy has been playing since he was young and lots of guys in Goa here play it regularly. You NEVER hear of anyone winning, although people do.

So, our babu took Ben to play one day on a whim. Ben just looked at the license plates of some scooters parked nearby and wrote down the numbers. He bet 500 rs (9 bucks).

He won 18,000 rs.

It was real, the money was collected, and we gifted half to babu since he was the one who got him to play. But then came the questions…. “you knew the numbers… how? … some website you know?.. answers are online?”

He had to say again, “no really I just got lucky!”

This is India!
