Welcome back to This is India! I always have funny/weird stories about India to share with friends or family when I talk to them. This is just meant to be an honest portrayal about my life in India through short anecdotes. I also share here what I’ve been up to online outside Hippie in Heels.

What I was up to other than here:

  • I am in Istanbul for the World Tourism Forum. I will update more next week when I’m back! I’m here the 2-11.

Now your story,

So this may seem a bit boring but I was telling a friend about how I had just gotten back from the lightbulb shop and it cracked her up. I mean, we don’t exactly have a Walmart here!

My house has newer lighting with screw-in bulbs, while most houses here had “clip in” bulbs which I don’t even think exist in the U.S. In the grocery stores, you can buy clip in, but no the screw in which you have to go to an electricians shop for. There is one in Mapusa so I go every once in a while to stock up.

This is India! 87The guy there will take each bulb out of the box and take two wires to the end of it to see if it lights up before selling it to me. I can’t even read the writing on the receipt but I bought about 10 bulbs for 200 Rs. ($3 USD) and I don’t even know if that’s cheap compared to home because I can’t remember the last time I bought a lightbulb in the US. This is India! 87 But yeah, this is really all I can think of to share! haha Hope you have a great week!
