Welcome back to This is India! I always have funny/weird stories about India to share with friends or family when I talk to them. This is just meant to be an honest portrayal about my life in India through short anecdotes. I also share here what I’ve been up to online outside Hippie in Heels.
What I was up to other than here:
- This has been a catch up on work week! Nothing too exciting to share… Have been hanging with a friend Amy and her little baby Ava, going to beach, and cooking. Ben’s gone all week so I have to entertain myself. I cooked these recipes and they were really good: ranch chicken bake except I just made it all on the stovetop (wouldn’t fit in the toaster!), cilantro lime chicken with rice, and roasted red pepper chicken with pasta but I added sun-dried tomatoes.
- Ben’s friend Dom is getting married to this really sweet girl (Massy, in the pic below!) who lives in Singapore so we are going to be there in May for a wedding. We went to visit them a couple years ago so we’ve already done some of the touristy things. Not sure if we will have time to stay after the wedding and explore or if Ben will need to be back in India for work. If you’ve been to Singapore, what would you do a second time around?
eating all the food we could find in Singapore (and being really sweaty messes)!
Now your story,
During my recent stay at Alila Diwa in South Goa, I saw on their plans they were having a “Goan market night”. At first thought I wasn’t too excited since I literally go to a Goan market everyday and thought it was more for people who were just passing through Goa- staying at a 5 star hotel and not getting out to experience things.
We went anyways to check it out and I was so surprised to realize everything we were seeing we had no idea was Goan lol. Ben and I even messaged our friend Ryance with photos and videos saying is this really Goan? He’s like yup.
Little did we know!
I did a little crafting- which is one of my favorite activites and made this fish from bamboo. Harder than it looks. The lady was like now you can make them on your own. I’m like yeahhhh (but no, I can’t sadly haha)
Then during dinner the dancing started! It was crazy! See below:
Yeah, that’s a guy one stilts and people dancing with candles on their heads! I’ve never seen it in Goa after nearly 3 years here so maybe I’m not exploring deep enough… Have you seen this?
This is India!
