Welcome back to This is India! I always have funny/weird stories about India to share with friends or family when I talk to them. This is just meant to be an honest portrayal about my life in India through short anecdotes. I also share here what I’ve been up to online outside Hippie in Heels.

What I was up to other than here:

  • Ben’s brother Josh was here for two weeks and we all had so much fun! I haven’t worked much and actually scheduled out my posts on here so we could just chill. We of course took him too all our favorite restaurants, toured Panjim, Old Goa, the Saturday Night Market, Wednesday Flea market, gokarting, elephants at the Spice Plantation, chilling at the beaches and playing games at Resort Rio pool, and a 4 day trip to Ratnagiri and Ganpatipule temple! Surprisingly, there wasn’t that much partying! Oh, we also had a luxurious stay at Noi Varo in Siolim- post coming soon on that!

Now your story,

We have Tata Sky cable at our house. An Alert kept coming up that we needed to update to a new box and that if we call they will send someone to bring it. I looked online it was is a free service; they just come change out the box.

I didn’t say much to Ben about it, just gave him the number to call. Indian people understand his English accent on the phone better than my American one. I wasn’t paying attention but apparently the guy told him it would be 500 rs service charge and Ben said Ok, that was fine.

The Sky guys showed up with the box, and Ben was upstairs working. They switched them out and then asked me for 500 Rs. I pulled the Sky website up on my computer and showed him it was free for everyone in India. He replied,

Yes madam it is free, but the sir said on the phone he’d give me 500 rupees, so…

haha! I told him no and he said ok and left.

This is India!
